This weekend we come together as a nation to celebrate Australia Day; the public holiday will be held on Monday. There are many events being held across the Sunshine Coast to commemorate this day and bring us together as a community – from picnics, riding giant thongs in the surf and dunny races, through to backyard BBQs with family and friends, and maybe a game of cricket thrown in; there’s generally lots of laughter shared and memories made.
Lions Club Australia Day in the Park – Tickle Park Coolum, kicking off at 6:30am with a Lioness Breakfast in the Park then an All-Day BBQ from 9am and plenty of activities for all ages including a talent show, ice-cream eating concert, live music and citizen of the year awards.
Marcoola Rocks – free family festivities including live music, rides and BBQ by the sea at Marcoola Surf Club.
Coolum Beach Hotel are celebrating Australia Day all weekend, starting from Friday night, with a line up of great music and fun activities featuring: Supersoaker playing Friday night, DJ Tim Torque mixing it up Saturday night, Burning Bites Down Under Chilli Chomping Competitions Sunday from 12.30pm, and Ewe Beauty Oz Rock Show on Sunday from 3pm.Coolum Beach Bowls Club are celebrating with a 70’s OZ Day from 5pm Sunday. Performing a set of the biggest local hits of the decade from Billy Thorpe, Daddy Cool, Ted Mulry, Sunnyboys, Skyhooks, ACDC, JPY, The Mentals, Brian Cadd, Chain and plenty of your other favourites from the greatest era in music history!
There are plenty of activities across the Sunshine Coast – from the hinterland through to the beach. Wherever and however you choose to spend it, enjoy.
